Ready to get your license? Ready to hit the road on two wheels? TSMA is located in Paris, Texas and proudly serves all of North Texas, East Texas and surrounding areas. We are contracted with the Texas Department of Public Safety to provide motorcycle instruction as directed and approved by the Texas DPS Motorcycle Safety Unit and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. No previous riding experience is required. We start with the basic fundamentals and provide students with the opportunity to learn to ride safely.
As a family-owned school, we're passionate about what we do, and committed to providing the best service for all our students.
At Texas Sun Motor Academy, our mission is to provide students with a safe and fun learning environment. We are committed to teaching safe riding techniques and providing high-quality training for riders of all levels. Our experienced instructors have many years of riding experience and valuable tips and tricks to share. We aspire to become the training academy of choice for motorcycle riders in Texas.
My name is Randy Huffman, starting this motorcycle training school has been a long-time dream of mine. Since I have been riding motorcycles for 20+ years, teaching others how to ride safely has always been a passion of mine. I am a veteran and a police officer who loves spending time with my family. Serving my community is important to me, and I strive to make sure that everyone who wants to ride has access to the best possible training.
Learning to ride a motorcycle is a lifelong skill that can bring joy and excitement to your life. I started Texas Sun Motor Academy to provide a platform for individuals to develop their skills and become the best riders they can be.
Come and see why Texas Sun Motor Academy is the best choice for your motorcycle training needs!!

Classroom materials are provided. You are encouraged to bring snacks and plenty of water for classroom breaks and range times. We take lunch breaks during the Basic Rider Course. No lunch break is scheduled for the Experienced Rider Course. Range sessions are physically demanding, it is recommended to drink plenty of water prior to course during warm months. You may also wish to bring sunscreen, rain gear and a folding chair for the range. You should always wear a DOT-approved helmet (one can be provided if you don't have one), eye protection, long sleeve shirt/jacket, gloves, pants and boots/shoes that cover your ankle.
Not only will this course teach you how to ride a motorcycle safely in a controlled environment, it is also now mandatory to attend and pass a Basic Rider Course prior to obtaining a Texas motorcycle license.
Students who are 15 - 17 years old are required by the State of Texas to complete the classroom portion of Driver's Education. Once you have obtained your certificate to get your driver's permit, or if you have your permit or driver's license, you are eligible to attend the Basic Rider Course. A parent must accompany a minor to class on Saturday morning to fill out necessary paperwork and waivers for the student if it has not been completed prior. Upon your enrollment we provide a Waiver and Medical Release form that is required by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Courses will be conducted regardless of the weather forecast. In the event of unsafe surface conditions (example: ice on the streets), we will notify you to reschedule the class, based on your contact information you provide us at the time of registration. Rain, heat, wind, and snow flurries are not causes for cancellation. We work around these types of conditions as best as possible keeping student safety a top priority.
You should always dress for the weather and be prepared for any type of weather. Texas weather can change without warning. Pay special attention to unbearable summer heat and extreme winter wind chills.
The Basic Rider Course is designed to allow the majority of riders to develop the essential road riding skills within the standard course structure. Not everyone will be successful on his or her first attempt.
If you should fail one of the tests, written or riding, you have several options available to you. We can discuss options with you if this problem arises. It is mandatory that the course is passed in order to receive a certificate of completion.
Students who cannot meet the minimum standards of the basic skills required to proceed in the class or students who become a danger to themselves or their classmates are not allowed to continue the training program.
Upon completion of the course, licensed Peace officers may receive 16 hours of TCOLE credit for completing the Basic Riders Course and 8 hours for the Basic Riders Course II. Please contact your training department for further details.
We understand that life can be unpredictable. If you need to reschedule, kindly provide us with a 4 day notice to allow another student to take your spot. If you fail to show up without prior notice, you forfeit your tuition. While our courses are generally non-refundable, we can process refunds for emergency situations with a 72-hour notice, subject to an administrative fee. Please note that once you start the course, there are no refunds for partial attendance, failing the skills tests, or being dismissed from the safety course.
Motorcycles will be provided for the course but please note, per company policy, that students could be held responsible for any damages to Texas Sun Motor Academy motorcycles. By registering for this course, you legally agree to be financially liable (up to the amount of $500) for damages to Texas Sun Motor Academy motorcycles while in use during this class. Damages may result from misuse of the motorcycle, dropping the motorcycle etc. We understand most students are new to riding and minor things happen, this agreement is for damage considered to be "major" damage to the motorcycles.
If a student misplaces their DMV completion certificate or MSF card, the student may request a one-time replacement for a $50 fee per card. However, Texas Sun Motor Academy does NOT replace expired cards or any cards after 1 year following the student’s course completion date.
During the course or after course completion, class photos/video may be taken. By acknowledging these terms, you legally agree to all of the following statements: I grant to Texas Sun Motor Academy permission to photograph or video me, and publish any media now or later, for promotional or other purpose. I release Texas Sun Motor Academy from any and all claims connected with the use of photographs or video of me.
